Low-VOC Silicone Sealant Innovation Leads Global Green Building Upgrade in 2026
2025-09-08 10:00:16

Against the backdrop of global carbon neutrality goals and increasingly stringent environmental regulations, low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) and solvent-free Silicone sealants have become the core innovation direction of the industry, triggering a comprehensive green upgrade in the global construction and manufacturing fields. In 2026, major environmental protection standards in Europe, North America, and China have been further tightened, forcing traditional sealant manufacturers to phase out high-pollution, high-volatile product lines and accelerate the iteration of environmentally friendly silicone sealant products.
Traditional acetoxy and solvent-based sealants release a large number of volatile organic compounds during construction and curing, which not only pollute indoor and outdoor air but also pose potential hazards to construction workers’ health and the ecological environment. In contrast, the newly upgraded low-VOC silicone sealants launched by leading enterprises in 2026 achieve near-zero volatile emissions through formula optimization and green raw material replacement. Test data shows that the VOC content of new environmentally friendly silicone sealants is reduced by more than 90% compared with traditional products, fully meeting the strict green building certification standards of LEED, BREEAM, and China’s Green Building Evaluation Standard.
Green building and low-carbon industrial policies have strongly boosted market demand for low-VOC silicone sealants. In Europe, more than 80% of new commercial building projects have clearly stipulated the use of zero-VOC and low-environmental-impact sealing materials in 2026. In North America, state-level environmental protection agencies have included traditional high-VOC sealants in the restricted procurement list, further expanding the market space for environmentally friendly silicone products. In China, with the continuous expansion of the national carbon market and the implementation of carbon tariff policies, construction and manufacturing enterprises have actively replaced traditional materials with green silicone sealants to reduce carbon emissions throughout the production and construction cycle.
Industry research shows that low-VOC silicone sealants have occupied more than 35% of the global silicone sealant market share in the first half of 2026, and the proportion is expected to exceed 50% by 2028. Apart from environmental protection advantages, these green products also retain excellent weather resistance, aging resistance, and bonding performance, adapting to complex construction environments. Industry insiders said that green, low-carbon, and zero-pollution will become the basic threshold for silicone sealant products to enter the high-end market, and enterprises that fail to complete green transformation will gradually be eliminated from the market competition.
